    UK Work Visa Dependant - Partner & Children from Bangladesh

    Dependant visa guidance for eligible partners and children joining a qualifying UK work visa holder.

    A UK Work Visa Dependant application allows an eligible partner or child to join, accompany or remain with a person who holds or is applying for a qualifying UK work visa. There is no single universal dependant visa for every worker: the dependant applies under the same work category as the main visa holder, and the eligibility rules, fees and conditions follow that category.

    Eligible dependants commonly include a spouse, civil partner, qualifying unmarried partner, and children under 18. An older child can normally continue only where they already hold permission as a dependant and remain eligible. Many work categories allow dependants, but some do not. Seasonal Workers and Overseas Domestic Workers cannot normally bring dependants, while special restrictions apply to care workers, senior care workers and certain medium-skilled Skilled Worker jobs. Applications from Bangladesh are completed online through GOV.UK and normally include identity and biometric steps through VFS Global. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document covering the intended stay in the UK. UKVI recommends providing a full copy of the passport, including pages showing previous travel and any official observations or amendments.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
    3. GOV.UK Online Application & Checklist: Complete the applicable work dependant application online through GOV.UK, pay the route-specific visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge where required, and follow the document checklist and identity instructions generated for the individual application.
    4. Main Work Visa Holder’s Evidence: Copy of the main applicant’s passport, current or pending UK work visa/eVisa details, application reference (GWF/UAN), and relevant information needed to link the dependant application to the qualifying work category.
    5. Partner Relationship Evidence: Marriage or civil partnership certificate, or evidence of a qualifying unmarried relationship. Where the couple do not live together, provide evidence of an ongoing and genuine commitment where required.
    6. Child Relationship & Dependency Evidence: Birth certificate or other evidence of the parent-child relationship. For older children continuing as dependants, provide evidence of existing dependant permission and continued eligibility where applicable.
    7. Financial Maintenance Evidence: Where required, evidence of £285 for a partner, £315 for the first child and £200 for each additional child, normally held for 28 consecutive days. Evidence may not be required where the relevant exemption applies or the sponsor certifies maintenance.
    8. Tuberculosis (TB) Certificate: Home Office-approved TB test certificate where the UK TB residence rules apply. This is normally relevant to qualifying applicants resident in Bangladesh who are coming to the UK for more than 6 months.
    9. Parental Responsibility / Consent Documents (where applicable): For a child application, provide documents addressing parental responsibility, custody or consent where relevant, particularly where both parents are not applying or travelling together.
    10. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Check the Main Work Visa Allows Dependants

    Confirm that the main visa holder’s current or proposed UK work category permits partner and child dependants, including any occupation-specific restrictions.

    Step 2

    Confirm Partner or Child Eligibility

    Check the relationship requirements and, for children, the age, dependency, parental responsibility and family-unit conditions that apply to the main work category.

    Step 3

    Apply Online & Link the Applications

    Each dependant normally completes a separate GOV.UK application. Use the main applicant’s GWF/UAN and family linking code where available so UKVI can connect the cases.

    Step 4

    Pay Fees & Upload Supporting Evidence

    Pay the route-specific visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge where required, then upload relationship, maintenance, TB and other supporting documents relevant to the case.

    Step 5

    Attend VFS & Provide Biometrics

    Follow the application instructions to attend the applicable UK Visa Application Centre in Bangladesh for fingerprints, photograph and identity steps where required.

    Step 6

    UKVI Assesses Dependant Eligibility

    UKVI assesses the application and may carry out additional checks or ask for further supporting evidence.

    Step 7

    Check the Decision & eVisa

    If approved, follow the decision instructions, access the UKVI account, check the eVisa and permission end date, and ensure the current passport is correctly linked before travel.
