Document Checklist
- Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document covering the intended stay in the UK. UKVI recommends providing a full copy of the passport, including pages showing previous travel and any official observations or amendments.
- Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
- GOV.UK Online Application & Checklist: Complete the Student dependant application online through GOV.UK, pay the applicable visa fee and Immigration Health Surcharge, and follow the document checklist and identity instructions generated for the individual application.
- Main Student's Visa / Application & Course Evidence: Copy of the Student's passport and eVisa or application/decision details, GWF or UAN, and relevant CAS, course or sponsor evidence showing that the Student is permitted to have dependants.
- Relationship Evidence: Marriage or civil partnership certificate for a spouse/partner, appropriate evidence for a qualifying unmarried partner, or a birth certificate for a child. Evidence should support a genuine and continuing family relationship.
- Student Dependant Financial Evidence: Evidence that each dependant has £845 per month in London or £680 per month outside London, for up to 9 months. Where required, funds must normally be held for 28 consecutive days, with the end date within 31 days before application.
- Tuberculosis (TB) Certificate: Home Office-approved TB test certificate where the UK TB residence rules apply. This is normally relevant to Bangladeshi applicants coming to the UK for 6 months or more.
- Official Financial Sponsorship Evidence (where applicable): Provide the relevant government or international scholarship/sponsorship letter where sponsorship is relied on for the Student or dependant living costs. If the sponsorship does not cover the dependant, separate maintenance evidence is required.
- Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
- Child Dependant Documents: Birth certificate, evidence of parental responsibility and consent, and documents addressing the child's living, care and dependency arrangements where relevant. A child applying for first dependant permission is normally under 18.
- Family Application Linking / Additional Evidence: Provide the main Student's GWF or UAN and any family linking code where available. UKVI may request further relationship, financial, accommodation or child-care evidence depending on the circumstances.
Process Roadmap
Step 1
Confirm the Student Can Have Dependants
Check the Student's course level, duration, sponsor status and government sponsorship, where relevant, against the current Student dependant eligibility rules.
Step 2
Confirm Partner or Child Eligibility
Confirm the qualifying relationship and, for a child, the age, dependency, parental responsibility and care requirements that apply to the application.
Step 3
Apply Online through GOV.UK
Each dependant submits a separate online application, pays the £558 visa fee and applicable IHS, and uses the Student's GWF or UAN to link the family applications.
Step 4
Upload Supporting Evidence
Upload relationship, Student/course, financial, TB and other supporting documents relevant to the dependant, with certified translations where required.
Step 5
Attend VFS & Provide Biometrics
Follow the application instructions to attend the relevant UK Visa Application Centre in Bangladesh for fingerprints, photograph and identity steps.
Step 6
UKVI Assesses the Application
UKVI checks the Student's dependant eligibility, the family relationship, maintenance funds, child requirements and suitability, and may request further evidence.
Step 7
Check the Decision & eVisa
If approved, access the dependant's UKVI account, check the eVisa and permission details, and ensure the current passport is correctly linked before travel.
