    UK Short-term Study Visa - English Language (6 to 11 Months) from Bangladesh

    Short-term study visa for English-only courses lasting more than 6 months and up to 11 months in the United Kingdom.

    The UK Short-term Study Visa is designed for applicants aged 16 or over who have been accepted onto an English language course in the United Kingdom lasting longer than 6 months and no more than 11 months. The course must include no other subjects and must be provided by an accredited institution.

    Applicants must show that the course and provider qualify, they can pay the course fees and support themselves without working or using public funds, and they can meet the cost of their return or onward journey. The stay can cover the course plus up to 30 additional days, provided the total does not exceed 11 months. This visa does not permit work, business activity, work placements, course changes, extension or dependants. Applications are made online through GOV.UK, followed by the required identity and biometric process, usually through VFS Global in Bangladesh. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document covering the intended stay in the UK. UKVI recommends providing a full copy of the passport, including pages showing previous travel and any official observations or amendments.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
    3. GOV.UK Online Application & Checklist: Complete the Short-term Study visa application online through GOV.UK, pay the applicable fee and healthcare surcharge, and follow the document checklist and identity instructions generated for the individual application.
    4. Cover Letter: Applicant's signed letter explaining the English study purpose, course and provider, intended travel dates, accommodation plan, trip funding and relevant personal circumstances. The information should remain consistent with the online form and supporting evidence.
    5. Course Acceptance Letter: Written confirmation from the accredited educational institution showing the English language course name, duration and cost, including accommodation charges where applicable. The course must last longer than 6 months and no more than 11 months and include no other subjects.
    6. Course Fee Payment / Funding Evidence: Evidence that the course fees have been paid or that sufficient funds are available to pay them, consistent with the acceptance letter and the financial information declared in the application.
    7. Travel & Accommodation Plans: Details of where the applicant intends to stay and the planned travel arrangements for the UK. GOV.UK advises applicants not to pay for accommodation or travel until a visa decision has been made.
    8. Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming your current professional status and ties to your home country, such as employment certificates, leave approval, pay slips, salary statements, or business-related documents (e.g., Trade License, Incorporation Certificate, MOA, Form XII, IRC/ERC). These should be recent, consistent with your application, and clearly demonstrate your ongoing occupation and intent to return after your visit.
    9. Employer / Study / Business Supporting Letter: Where applicable, provide a letter confirming the applicant's role or enrolment, salary or relevant status, length of employment or study, approved leave and expected continuation after the visit. Self-employed applicants may provide current business evidence.
    10. Financial Evidence for Course & Stay: Provide evidence that the applicant can support and accommodate themselves without working or using public funds and can pay for the return or onward journey.
    11. Parent / Official Sponsor Evidence: Where permitted funds are held by a parent or legal guardian, provide proof of relationship and written consent to use those funds. Where applicable, provide evidence of qualifying official financial sponsorship.
    12. Tuberculosis (TB) Certificate: Where the UK TB residence rules apply, provide a valid certificate from a Home Office-approved clinic. This is normally relevant to applicants residing in Bangladesh who are coming to the UK for 6 months or more.
    13. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
    14. Personal / Sponsor Income Evidence: Where relevant to the source of funds, provide suitable income, employment, tax or business evidence that is consistent with the financial information declared in the application.
    15. Minor Applicant Documents: For applicants aged 16 or 17, provide birth certificate, parent/legal guardian contact details, written parental or guardian consent for the visa application, travel and study, and evidence of the planned travel, reception, living and care arrangements in the UK. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm the Course Qualifies

    Check that the applicant is at least 16 and the course is English-only, longer than 6 months, no more than 11 months, and offered by an accredited institution.

    Step 2

    Prepare Course & Financial Evidence

    Gather the acceptance letter, course-fee evidence, funds for the stay and return journey, accommodation and travel plans, TB certificate and any other documents relevant to the case.

    Step 3

    Apply Online through GOV.UK

    Submit the Short-term Study visa application up to 3 months before travel and pay the £228 visa fee plus the applicable healthcare surcharge, usually £776.

    Step 4

    Book the VFS Biometric Appointment

    After submitting the online application, follow the GOV.UK/VFS instructions to book the required appointment at an available UK Visa Application Centre in Bangladesh.

    Step 5

    Attend VFS & Provide Biometrics

    Attend in person as instructed to provide fingerprints and a photograph and complete the applicable identity, passport and document-handling steps.

    Step 6

    UKVI Assesses the Application

    UKVI considers the course, finances, temporary study intention and supporting evidence, and may carry out verification checks or request further information.

    Step 7

    Check the Decision & eVisa

    If approved, follow the decision instructions, access the UKVI account, check the eVisa and permission details, and ensure the current passport is correctly linked before travel.
