    UK Marriage Visitor Visa from Bangladesh

    The UK Marriage Visitor Visa is the purpose-specific visitor category for Bangladeshi nationals who intend to give notice of marriage or civil partnership, marry, or form a civil partnership in the United Kingdom and then leave the UK after the visit. It is designed for a temporary marriage-related visit, not for applicants who plan to remain or settle in the UK after the ceremony.

    Applicants must be 18 or over, be in a genuine relationship, be free to marry or enter into a civil partnership, and intend to complete the relevant marriage or civil partnership activity within 6 months of arrival. They must also show credible arrangements for the visit, sufficient funding, and a genuine intention to leave the UK. This visa cannot be extended or switched to another UK visa from inside the UK. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document covering the intended stay in the UK. UKVI recommends providing a full copy of the passport, including pages showing previous travel and any official observations or amendments.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
    3. GOV.UK Online Application & Checklist: Complete the Marriage Visitor visa application online through GOV.UK, pay the applicable fee and follow the document checklist and identity instructions generated for the individual application.
    4. Cover Letter: Applicant's signed letter explaining the planned marriage, civil partnership or notice, intended travel dates, relationship, accommodation, trip funding and reasons for leaving the UK after the visit. The information should remain consistent with the online form and supporting evidence.
    5. Marriage / Civil Partnership Arrangements: Evidence of the planned UK activity, such as a registrar or notice appointment, licensed venue or reception booking, relevant emails or correspondence, and proof of money paid toward marriage or civil partnership costs where available.
    6. Relationship, Partner & Freedom-to-Marry Evidence: Relevant evidence showing the genuine relationship and identifying the intended partner. Where applicable, include partner passport or immigration-status evidence and proof that any previous marriage or civil partnership has legally ended, such as a final divorce document or death certificate.
    7. Flight Reservation: Provisional flight itinerary/reservation showing travel dates, route, and flight details, consistent with the planned schedule. Payment is not necessarily required at this stage.
    8. Hotel Reservation / Accommodation Booking: Booking confirmation covering intended stay dates, showing applicant name, accommodation name/address, check-in/out dates, and booking reference; consistent with itinerary. If staying with the partner or another host, provide clear host and accommodation details instead.
    9. Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming your current professional status and ties to your home country, such as employment certificates, leave approval, pay slips, salary statements, or business-related documents (e.g., Trade License, Incorporation Certificate, MOA, Form XII, IRC/ERC). These should be recent, consistent with your application, and clearly demonstrate your ongoing occupation and intent to return after your visit.
    10. Employer / Study / Business Supporting Letter: Where applicable, provide a letter confirming the applicant's role or enrolment, salary or relevant status, length of employment or study, approved leave and expected continuation after the visit. Self-employed applicants may provide current business evidence.
    11. Business/Company Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements for the last 6 months for business/company accounts, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    12. Company TIN & ITR: Copy of the employer/company TIN certificate and copies of the company Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
    13. Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    14. Personal TIN & ITR: Copy of the personal TIN certificate and Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
    15. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
    16. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.  

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm the Marriage Visitor Category

    Check that the applicant is 18 or over, is in a genuine relationship, intends to give notice, marry or form a civil partnership in the UK within 6 months, and does not intend to remain or settle in the UK afterward.

    Step 2

    Prepare Marriage & Visitor Evidence

    Gather evidence of the planned notice or ceremony, the relationship, freedom to marry where relevant, finances, accommodation, occupation and reasons to return after the visit.

    Step 3

    Apply Online through GOV.UK

    Complete the Marriage Visitor visa application online and pay the £135 fee. The earliest application date is 3 months before the intended travel date.

    Step 4

    Upload Documents & Book VFS Appointment

    Upload the supporting evidence and follow the GOV.UK/VFS instructions to book the required appointment at an available UK Visa Application Centre in Bangladesh.

    Step 5

    Attend VFS & Provide Biometrics

    Attend in person as instructed, take the passport, provide fingerprints and a photograph, and complete the applicable identity and document-handling steps.

    Step 6

    UKVI Assesses the Application

    UKVI considers the Marriage Visitor requirements and supporting evidence and may request further information or verification.

    Step 7

    Check the Decision & eVisa

    If approved, follow the decision instructions, check the eVisa and permission details in the UKVI account, ensure the current passport is correctly linked before travel.
