South Africa Remote Work Visa from Bangladesh

Visitor’s Visa for eligible foreign-employed professionals working remotely from South Africa for more than three months.

    Last Updated: 30 August 2026

The South Africa Remote Work Visa is a Visitor’s Visa under section 11(1)(b)(iv) for Bangladeshi nationals and eligible residents who remain employed by an employer outside South Africa while conducting their work remotely from within the country. This category covers stays exceeding three months and up to three years and does not permit employment with a South African employer.

Applicants must hold a valid contract with a foreign-based employer and meet the prescribed income requirement. The October 2024 Government Gazette sets this at no less than R650,976 gross per annum. Applications from Bangladesh are handled by the South African High Commission in New Delhi and submitted through VFS Global New Delhi.

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 30 days after the intended date of departure from South Africa, with at least two unused/blank visa pages. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the application and supporting records.
    3. Photograph (South Africa Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs, 35mm x 45mm, taken within the last 30 days against a plain white background and meeting the current South Africa VFS photo specifications.
    4. DHA-84 Visa Application Form: Fully completed Form DHA-84 in black ink and block letters, signed by the applicant with details consistent with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter explaining the remote-work purpose, intended period in South Africa, foreign employer, role, accommodation and travel arrangements. It should clearly confirm that the employment remains with an employer outside South Africa, and state who will bear the expenses and include the applicant’s address and contact details.
    6. Foreign Employment Contract: Valid employment contract signed by both the applicant and the foreign-based employer, confirming the employment relationship and supporting the proposed remote-work activity from South Africa.
    7. Foreign Employer Confirmation Letter: Supporting letter from the foreign employer confirming the applicant’s position, ongoing employment, remote-work arrangement, remuneration and the intended period during which the applicant may perform the work from South Africa.
    8. Gross Annual Income Evidence: Evidence showing gross salary of at least R650,976 per annum under the October 2024 Government Gazette. Applicants should rely on the gazetted legal threshold and verify the live VFS New Delhi requirement before submission.
    9. Personal Bank Statements: Original bank statements for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the applicant’s name, salary receipts and sufficient financial means consistent with the declared foreign employment and remuneration.
    10. Tax Residence & SARS Compliance: The applicable SARS registration requirement depends on the applicant’s tax residence and South Africa’s double-taxation agreements. A Bangladeshi tax resident should review the current SARS position before travel because Bangladesh is not presently listed among South Africa’s in-force DTA jurisdictions.
    11. Flight Reservation: Valid flight ticket or provisional reservation showing the intended travel dates and consistent with the application. Applicants should avoid purchasing non-refundable travel tickets before a visa decision.
    12. Hotel Reservation / Accommodation Booking: Hotel booking or other accommodation evidence covering the intended stay, showing the relevant address and dates and remaining consistent with the invitation and travel plan.
    13. Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate (where applicable): Required if the applicant will travel through or stay in a yellow-fever-risk area before entering South Africa. Check the current South African yellow fever policy against the planned itinerary.
    14. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
    15. Minor Applicant Documents (where applicable): For applicants under 18, provide the required birth, parental consent form, parent/legal guardian identification, custody or guardianship documents, and other supporting records required under the current minor-travel rules.

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm the Remote Work Purpose

Check that the applicant will remain employed and paid by an employer outside South Africa and will not take up local South African employment.

    Step 2

Verify the Employment & Income Position

Confirm the signed foreign employment contract, remote-work arrangement and gross annual salary against the current legal income threshold.

    Step 3

Complete DHA-84 & Explain the Stay

Complete DHA-84 carefully and prepare a concise purpose statement aligning the remote-work period, employer, accommodation and intended travel dates.

    Step 4

Prepare Salary, Funds & Travel Evidence

Arrange the bank evidence, employer confirmation, flight reservation, accommodation and other supporting records relevant to the stay.

    Step 5

    Review the SARS Tax Position

Check the applicant’s tax-residence position and whether SARS registration is required under the current Remote Work Visa tax rules.

    Step 6

Lodge the Application in New Delhi

A prior appointment is currently not required under the approved New Delhi process. Submit the complete file at VFS and pay the applicable visa and VFS charges.

    Step 7

Track the Case & Check Visa Conditions

Follow available VFS updates and, after passport return, verify the approved validity, entries and conditions before travelling or beginning the remote-work stay.
