Slovenia Visa for Family Members of EU/EEA Citizens from Bangladesh

Facilitated Schengen short-stay visa for eligible family members travelling with or joining an EU/EEA citizen in Slovenia.

    Last Updated: 30 August 2026

The Slovenia Visa for Family Members of EU/EEA Citizens is a facilitated Schengen short-stay route for eligible Bangladeshi applicants travelling with an EU/EEA citizen or joining that citizen in Slovenia. It is generally relevant for visits of up to 90 days.

Eligibility depends on the EU/EEA citizen exercising free-movement rights, the applicant holding a qualifying family relationship or dependency, and clear evidence of the plan to accompany or join the citizen in Slovenia. Sweden represents Slovenia for short-stay visa matters in Bangladesh, and applications are lodged through the Sweden Visa Application Centre in Dhaka.

This route is different from an ordinary family visit visa. If the sponsor is a Slovenian citizen who has not exercised EU free-movement rights, or if the applicant intends to stay for more than 90 days, Slovenia's national visa, family-member residence permit, or another residence procedure may apply.

    Document Checklist

    3. Photograph (ICAO Format): Provide 2-4 recent colour passport photographs with a plain white background, 60%-70% face coverage, no eyeglasses, no head/ear coverings unless worn for religious reasons, and no borders. Photos must be ICAO-compliant.
    4. Schengen Visa Application Form (Offline): Printed Schengen visa application form completed for each applicant; signed and dated. For minors, the form must be signed by parent/legal guardian.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter addressed to the Visa Officer/Visa Office explaining the purpose of travel, relationship with the EU/EEA citizen, intended travel dates, accommodation plan, and how the applicant will accompany or join the EU/EEA citizen.

    7. Proof of Family Relationship: Documents proving the family relationship, such as marriage certificate, birth certificate, registered partnership certificate, proof of durable partnership, or other official family records as applicable.
    8. Proof of Dependency: For dependent children over 21, dependent parents, or other dependent family members, provide documents showing financial dependency, serious health-related dependency, or other relevant qualifying connection.
    9. Proof of Accompanying or Joining the EU/EEA Citizen: Evidence showing that the applicant will travel with or join the EU/EEA citizen, such as the EU/EEA citizen's travel plan, residence/address proof in Slovenia, employment, study, self-employment, registration, accommodation, or other residence-related documents.
    10. Flight Reservation / Travel Itinerary: Provisional travel itinerary showing travel dates, route, reservation number, and arrival/departure details. The travel plan should be consistent with the purpose of joining or accompanying the EU/EEA citizen.

    12. Proof of Occupation / Status in Bangladesh: Documents confirming your current professional status and ties to your home country, such as employment certificates, leave approval, business documents, student certificate, or other relevant personal status documents.
    13. Financial / Support Evidence: Financial documents may be provided where relevant, especially if dependency, sponsorship, or support is part of the case. These may include bank statements, sponsor support, or evidence showing how the visit will be supported.
    14. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
    15. Minor Applicant Documents: For minors, provide birth certificate, parental consent, parent/legal guardian identification, proof of economic means of parents/legal guardian, and custody or guardianship documents where applicable.
    16. Travel Health Insurance: Eligible family members of EU/EEA citizens exercising free movement rights are generally exempt from the Schengen medical travel insurance requirement. However, supporting documents must clearly establish the qualifying EU/EEA family-member status. Travel insurance is still recommended for practical travel safety.

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Check EU/EEA Free-Movement Eligibility

Confirm that the applicant falls within a qualifying family category and that the EU/EEA citizen is moving to, residing in, or travelling to Slovenia under free-movement rules. The applicant must travel with or join that citizen.

    Step 2

    Complete the Application Form

Complete the Schengen application form with the EU/EEA family-member basis stated clearly. Names, passport details, relationship information, travel dates, and the Slovenia movement plan should remain consistent.

    Step 3

    Arrange Relationship & EU/EEA Evidence

Collect the EU/EEA citizen's passport or identity document, relationship proof, dependency evidence where relevant, and documents showing that the applicant will accompany or join the citizen in Slovenia.

    Step 4

    Prepare Applicant Documents

Arrange the applicant's passport, photographs, cover letter, itinerary, accommodation or residence evidence, Bangladesh status documents, civil records, and minor documents where applicable. Provide translations where required.

    Step 5

Book Appointment at Visa Application Centre

Book under the correct EU/EEA family-member category at the Sweden Visa Application Centre in Dhaka, which receives Slovenia short-stay applications under Sweden's representation. Keep the confirmation and arrange the file in A4 format.

    Step 6

    Submit Application & Provide Biometrics

Attend the appointment with the completed application and passport, provide biometric information where required, and complete any applicable VFS or optional-service payments. The visa-fee exemption applies only when eligibility is established.

    Step 7

    Track Application & Verify Visa

Follow the application using the VFS reference number. After passport return, collect it or receive it by courier if selected, then check the personal details, validity, entries, and permitted stay before travel.

    Common Rejection Pitfalls

EU/EEA free-movement basis is not established

    How UnivEase helps

We review the citizen's nationality, Slovenia travel or residence position, free-movement context, and the applicant's relationship before identifying the appropriate visa route.

Relationship or dependency evidence is incomplete

    How UnivEase helps

We organize marriage, birth, partnership, household, dependency, and other civil records so the family link, names, dates, and supporting facts remain consistent.

The accompanying or joining plan lacks support

    How UnivEase helps

We cross-check the citizen's Slovenia travel or residence evidence, flight plans, accommodation, address records, and supporting statements so the purpose of movement is clearly documented.

A national or long-stay case uses the short-stay route

    How UnivEase helps

We assess whether the case fits the facilitated Schengen visa category, a Slovenian family-member residence permit, another national family route, or a different immigration procedure.
