Document Checklist
- Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document. For an online application, upload the required passport copy; the passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand. INZ will advise if the original passport is required later.
- Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
- Enhanced Immigration Online Application, Photo & Translations: Complete the Pathway Student Visa application through enhanced Immigration Online, upload an acceptable visa photo and pay the applicable charge. Provide certified English translations of police and medical certificates that are not in English together with scans of the originals; translate other supporting evidence where required or helpful for assessment.
- Cover Letter: Applicant's signed statement explaining the proposed study pathway, academic background, progression between programmes, reasons for choosing New Zealand and the provider(s), funding plan and longer-term study or career objectives. The explanation should remain consistent with the offers of place and supporting evidence.
- Pathway Offer(s) of Place & Provider Support Letter: Offer of place for each programme in the approved pathway, or a joint offer where applicable. Provide the pathway provider support letter, or joint support letter where more than one provider is involved, showing the programmes that make up the pathway and the start and end dates for each. Offers should also state the provider, course, level, study dates, study mode and scheduled holidays where required.
- Academic, English Language & Progression Evidence: Academic certificates, transcripts and relevant English-language evidence supporting entry to the first programme and the intended progression. Applicants must continue to meet the prerequisites for later programmes. Where an English-language programme starts a qualifying pathway, INZ may request an IELTS or equivalent result; applicable English-language study must be completed within the permitted period.
- Tuition Fee Evidence & Future Pathway Funding: Evidence that tuition fees for the first programme or first year of study, whichever is shorter, have been paid or otherwise meet INZ requirements. Also provide credible evidence of the ability to fund the remaining balance of the first programme and later pathway programmes. Offshore applicants may use the approval-in-principle option where applicable and pay tuition after INZ advises.
- Sponsor / Financial Guarantor Evidence (where applicable): Where sponsorship is used, provide the sponsor information required by enhanced Immigration Online, including the sponsor’s sharing ID. INZ will then ask the sponsor to complete the online sponsorship process. Where a financial guarantor is used, provide the completed Financial Undertaking for a Student form (INZ 1014) together with the required financial evidence.
- Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
- Personal TIN & ITR: Copy of the personal TIN certificate and Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
- Medical & Travel Insurance / Health Evidence: Evidence or declaration of acceptable medical and travel insurance for the required period, together with chest X-ray and/or medical evidence where INZ requires it. Bangladeshi students planning to stay more than 6 months should pay particular attention to INZ tuberculosis screening requirements.
- Police Clearance Certificate & Insurance: Police certificates are generally required for applicants aged 17 or older whose total New Zealand stay will be 24 months or longer. The student must also hold medical and travel insurance acceptable to the education provider from the start of the course until visa expiry, subject to applicable INZ exemptions.
- Additional Pathway Evidence (where applicable): Returning students should provide evidence of academic performance, progress and attendance. Where relevant, include proof that practical work experience is part of the programme, course and holiday information for work conditions, and required work permissions for eligible younger students.
- Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
- Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
Process Roadmap
Step 1
Confirm an Eligible Study Pathway
Confirm that the proposed sequence uses an approved pathway education provider or providers, covers no more than 3 programmes, shows genuine academic progression and meets the relevant prerequisites and timing rules.
Step 2
Build the Pathway & Financial Evidence
Prepare the pathway offers and support letter, academic and English evidence, first-programme tuition evidence, future pathway funding plan, living funds, insurance and other required supporting documents.
Step 3
Apply through Enhanced Immigration Online
Complete the Pathway Student Visa application through INZ enhanced Immigration Online system using your RealMe login, upload the supporting evidence and pay the applicable visa charge.
Step 4
Complete Any INZ Follow-up Requirements
Provide health, character, additional financial or pathway evidence if requested. Submit the original passport only if INZ asks for it and follow the VAC or INZ instructions issued for the application.
Step 5
INZ Assesses the Full Study Progression
INZ assesses provider eligibility, the pathway sequence, genuine study intentions, academic capability, funding, health and character, and may request further information before making a decision.
Step 6
Review the eVisa & Follow Pathway Conditions
If approved, review the eVisa conditions carefully. Continue meeting programme prerequisites, academic progress and any work conditions, and normally begin the next approved pathway programme within 16 weeks of completing the previous one.
Common Rejection Pitfalls
The proposed pathway is not clearly eligible or academically progressive
How UnivEase helps
We help check provider eligibility, programme sequence, study levels, dates and progression so the application presents a coherent pathway rather than unrelated courses.
Offers of place, support letters or later-course prerequisites are incomplete
How UnivEase helps
We help cross-check the pathway offers and provider support against INZ requirements and identify prerequisite, date or programme-detail gaps before submission.
Funding is shown for the first course but not credibly for the wider pathway
How UnivEase helps
We help review tuition, living funds, source-of-funds evidence and the plan for later study, including Bangladesh-specific sponsor or financial-undertaking rules.
The study progression or genuine student intention is not sufficiently explained
How UnivEase helps
We help organise the academic history, English evidence, pathway logic and future objectives so the application explains why each programme is a credible next step.
