Document Checklist
- Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document. For an online application, upload the required passport copy; the passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand. INZ will advise if the original passport is required later.
- Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
- Enhanced Immigration Online Application, Photo & Translations: Complete the Partner of a Worker Work Visa application through INZ's enhanced Immigration Online system, upload an acceptable visa photo and pay the applicable fee. Provide required English translations together with copies of supporting documents that are not in English.
- Relationship & Living-Together Evidence: Evidence that the applicant and supporting partner are living together in a genuine and stable relationship. This may include marriage or civil-union evidence where applicable, shared address records, joint finances or responsibilities, correspondence, photographs, travel history and other evidence showing the duration and nature of the partnership.
- Supporting Partner's Visa, Identity & INZ 1146: Copy of the supporting partner's passport and current New Zealand work visa, or evidence of their pending work visa application, together with the completed Form for Partners Supporting Partnership-Based Temporary Entry Applications (INZ 1146). The applicant's visa cannot be granted until the supporting partner's eligible work visa is approved.
- Supporting Work Visa / Employment Eligibility Evidence: Where relevant, provide evidence showing that the supporting partner's work visa, occupation, skill level and pay meet INZ's family-support requirements. Additional conditions apply to some AEWV and Essential Skills Work Visa holders, and certain work visas cannot support this application.
- Cover Letter / Partnership Explanation: Applicant's signed letter explaining the relationship, living-together history, reason for joining or remaining with the supporting partner in New Zealand, intended stay and relevant personal circumstances. The information should remain consistent with the online application and relationship evidence.
- Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
- Living Funds / Sponsorship & Outward Travel Evidence: Evidence of sufficient funds for the stay where requested, or an acceptable sponsor with the required sponsorship form and financial evidence. Applicants may also need to show onward-travel arrangements or enough additional money to purchase a ticket out of New Zealand.
- Health & Character Documents: Chest X-ray, medical examination and police certificates where required by INZ based on intended stay, age and immigration history. Police certificates are generally required for applicants aged 17 or older where total time in New Zealand will be 24 months or longer.
- Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
- Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
Process Roadmap
Step 1
Confirm the Supporting Work Visa
Check that the supporting partner holds, or is applying for, a work visa that can support a Partner of a Worker Work Visa, including any AEWV-linked skill and pay requirements.
Step 2
Build the Partnership Evidence
Prepare clear evidence of living together, relationship history, shared responsibilities, the supporting partner's identity and visa, INZ 1146, funds and health or character documents where required.
Step 3
Apply through Enhanced Immigration Online
Complete the online application, upload the supporting evidence and acceptable photo, and pay the applicable visa charge.
Step 4
INZ Assesses Partnership & Support Eligibility
INZ reviews whether the relationship is genuine and stable, whether the couple are living together, and whether the supporting worker is eligible to support this visa. Further evidence may be requested.
Step 5
Provide Passport or Further Evidence If Requested
An online application normally starts with a passport copy. If INZ asks for the original passport, medical evidence, police certificates, funds or other documents, follow the instructions issued for the case.
Step 6
Review the Decision & eVisa Conditions
If approved, check the eVisa duration, work and travel conditions carefully. The visa is normally aligned with the supporting partner's work visa.
