Document Checklist
- Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document. For an online application, upload the required passport copy; the passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand. INZ will advise if the original passport is required later.
- Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
- Enhanced Immigration Online Application, Photo & Translations: Complete the Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa application through INZ’s enhanced Immigration Online system using a RealMe login, upload an acceptable visa photo and pay the applicable fee. Provide English translations together with copies of supporting documents that are not in English.
- Cover Letter: Applicant's signed letter explaining the family-visit purpose, intended travel dates, child/grandchild details, proposed stay, sponsorship arrangements and relevant personal circumstances. The information should remain consistent with the online form and supporting evidence.
- Sponsor & Family Relationship Evidence: Evidence that the sponsor is the applicant's child or grandchild, or the parent of a child/grandchild aged 17 or younger, together with proof that the child or grandchild is a New Zealand citizen or resident. Appropriate evidence may include birth, adoption, household-registration and New Zealand status documents.
- Flight Reservation: Provisional flight itinerary/reservation showing travel dates, route, and flight details, consistent with the planned schedule. Payment is not necessarily required at this stage.
- Sponsorship & Sponsor Evidence: The applicant must have an eligible New Zealand sponsor. For most enhanced Immigration Online applications, provide the sponsor’s full name, email address and sharing ID in the application. After submission, INZ emails the sponsor to complete the online sponsorship form through Immigration Online. Where the PDF sponsorship process applies, provide a completed and signed Sponsorship Form for Temporary Entry (INZ 1025), together with the required sponsor and family-relationship evidence.
- Medical Examination & Chest X-ray: Provide the required medical examination and chest X-ray evidence with the application, unless INZ can accept medical certificates previously provided and issued within the last 36 months. New medical evidence must meet INZ validity requirements.
- Police Clearance Certificate: Provide police clearance certificate if required under INZ character rules. Certificate must meet INZ's age, residence-history and validity requirements.
- Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming your current professional status and ties to your home country, such as employment certificates, leave approval, pay slips, salary statements, or business-related documents (e.g., Trade License, Incorporation Certificate, MOA, Form XII, IRC/ERC). These should be recent, consistent with your application, and clearly demonstrate your ongoing occupation and intent to return after your visit.
- Employer / Study / Business Supporting Letter: Where applicable, provide a letter confirming the applicant's role or enrolment, salary or relevant status, length of employment or study, approved leave and expected continuation after the visit. Self-employed applicants may provide current business evidence.
- Business/Company Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements for the last 6 months for business/company accounts, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
- Company TIN & ITR: Copy of the employer/company TIN certificate and copies of the company Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
- Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
- Personal TIN & ITR: Copy of the personal TIN certificate and Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
- Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
- Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
- Partner Documents / Dependent Children: A partner may be included in the same application with evidence of the relationship, identity, health and character. Dependent children cannot be included under this visa and must apply for their own appropriate visa.
Process Roadmap
Step 1
Confirm Eligibility for the Parent & Grandparent Visa
Check that you are outside New Zealand, have an eligible New Zealand child or grandchild to visit, and have not been granted this visa in the previous 36 months.
Step 2
Prepare Sponsorship, Family & Health Evidence
Prepare INZ 1025, sponsor status and relationship evidence, passport/photo, required medical and chest X-ray evidence, and any applicable character or supporting documents.
Step 3
Apply through Enhanced Immigration Online
Use INZ’s enhanced Immigration Online system with your RealMe login, complete the Parent and Grandparent Visitor Visa application, upload the supporting evidence and pay the applicable fee. Provide the sponsor details and sharing ID where the online sponsorship process applies.
Step 4
Provide the Passport Only If Requested
For online applications, a passport copy is usually sufficient at first. If INZ later asks for the original, submit it through the VAC or INZ office specified in the instructions.
Step 5
INZ Assesses the Application
INZ reviews sponsorship, family relationship, health, character and genuine intentions, and may request further evidence or verification before deciding the application.
Step 6
Check the Decision & eVisa
INZ emails you when a decision is made. Check your Immigration Online dashboard using your RealMe login and, if approved, review the eVisa validity, travel conditions and permitted stay.
