New Zealand Medical Treatment Visitor Visa from Bangladesh

Purpose-specific visitor visa guidance for pre-approved medical treatment or consultation in New Zealand, with clear evidence, funding, and eVisa requirements.

    Last Updated: 7 October 2026

The New Zealand Medical Treatment Visitor Visa is for people who have already been accepted for medical treatment or consultation in New Zealand. For Bangladeshi nationals and eligible residents, it provides a specific temporary-entry category for receiving the approved treatment at the hospital or institution identified in the application. The visa generally allows a stay of up to 6 months, and a further visa may be possible where additional treatment is medically required.

Applicants must provide the completed Details of Intended Medical Treatment form (INZ 1009), written treatment acceptance, expected treatment costs and evidence showing how those costs will be paid. They must also have enough money for living expenses or acceptable sponsorship, meet character and genuine-intention requirements, and show plans to leave New Zealand. INZ recommends full medical insurance. A medically required escort needs an appropriate visitor visa. Renal-dialysis treatment under this category is restricted by INZ to eligible South Pacific citizens under special arrangements.

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document. For an online application, upload the required passport copy; the passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand. INZ will advise if the original passport is required later.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
    3. Enhanced Immigration Online Application, Photo & Translations: Complete the Visitor Visa application through enhanced Immigration Online using RealMe account, upload an acceptable visa photo, and pay the applicable fee. Provide English translations together with copies of any supporting documents that are not in English.
    4. Cover Letter: Applicant's signed letter explaining the medical treatment or consultation purpose, intended travel dates, treatment provider, expected stay, funding arrangements and relevant personal circumstances. The information should remain consistent with INZ 1009 and the supporting medical evidence.
    5. Details of Intended Medical Treatment (INZ 1009): Completed INZ 1009 form providing the required details of the proposed medical treatment or consultation in New Zealand.
    6. Treatment Acceptance / Medical Provider Letter: Written evidence from the New Zealand medical authority, hospital, clinic or specialist confirming acceptance for the proposed treatment or consultation and relevant treatment arrangements.
    7. Treatment Cost & Payment Evidence: Provide the expected treatment costs and clear evidence showing how all medical expenses will be paid. Where a person or organisation is funding the treatment, include the relevant financial commitment and supporting evidence.
    8. Sponsorship Evidence (where applicable): If an acceptable sponsor will meet living, accommodation or outward-travel costs, provide the sponsor details required by enhanced Immigration Online, including the applicable sharing ID. After submission, INZ may ask the sponsor to complete the online sponsorship process. INZ 1025 applies where the PDF sponsorship process is used.
    9. Flight Reservation: Provisional flight itinerary/reservation showing travel dates, route, and flight details, consistent with the planned schedule. Payment is not necessarily required at this stage.
    10. Hotel Reservation / Accommodation Booking: Booking confirmation covering intended stay dates, showing applicant name, accommodation name/address, check-in/out dates, and booking reference; consistent with itinerary.
    11. Escort Evidence (if required): Where the patient's condition requires an escort, provide medical evidence explaining that need. The accompanying family member, friend or medical professional must obtain the appropriate visitor visa.
    12. Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming your current professional status and ties to your home country, such as employment certificates, leave approval, pay slips, salary statements, or business-related documents (e.g., Trade License, Incorporation Certificate, MOA, Form XII, IRC/ERC). These should be recent, consistent with your application, and clearly demonstrate your ongoing occupation and intent to return after your visit.
    13. Employer / Study / Business Supporting Letter: Where applicable, provide a letter confirming the applicant's role or enrolment, salary or relevant status, length of employment or study, approved leave and expected continuation after the visit. Self-employed applicants may provide current business evidence.
    14. Business/Company Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements for the last 6 months for business/company accounts, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    15. Company TIN & ITR: Copy of the employer/company TIN certificate and copies of the company Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.

    17. Personal TIN & ITR: Copy of the personal TIN certificate and Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
    18. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
    19. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
    20. Minor Applicant Documents: For applicants under 18, provide birth certificate, parental consent, parent/legal guardian identification, proof of economic means of parents/legal guardian, and custody or guardianship documents where applicable.

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm Treatment Acceptance

Confirm that the New Zealand medical provider has accepted the treatment or consultation and can provide the required treatment details and expected costs.

    Step 2

Prepare Medical, Funding & Travel Evidence

Complete INZ 1009 and prepare treatment acceptance, cost/payment evidence, living funds or sponsorship, outward-travel plans, escort evidence where required and translations.

    Step 3

    Apply through Enhanced Immigration Online

Use INZ’s enhanced Immigration Online system with your RealMe login. Select ‘Visitor’, choose ‘Other’ as the visit purpose, then select ‘To seek medical treatment or consultation’. Upload the supporting evidence and pay the applicable fee.

    Step 4

Provide the Passport Only If Requested

For online applications, a passport copy is usually sufficient at first. If INZ later asks for the original, submit it through the VAC or INZ office specified in the instructions.

    Step 5

    INZ Assesses the Application

INZ reviews the treatment acceptance, costs and funding, genuine intentions, character and supporting evidence and may request further information or verification.

    Step 6

    Check the Decision & eVisa

INZ emails you when a decision is made. Check your Immigration Online dashboard using your RealMe login and, if approved, review the eVisa conditions and carry proof of the pre-approved treatment for travel.
