Document Checklist
- Passport / Travel Document: Valid passport or other travel document. For an online application, upload the required passport copy; the passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave New Zealand. INZ will advise if the original passport is required later.
- Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application.
- Enhanced Immigration Online Application, Photo & Translations: Complete the English Language Student Visa application through INZ's enhanced Immigration Online system, upload an acceptable visa photo, and pay the applicable fee. Provide English translations together with copies of any supporting documents that are not in English.
- Offer of Place / Confirmation of Enrolment: Provide an offer of place from an approved education provider showing the English language course, duration and study mode, together with scheduled holiday information where required. Returning students should provide confirmation of enrolment. Offshore applicants may apply with a conditional offer, but an unconditional offer is required before the visa can be granted.
- Cover Letter: Applicant's signed letter explaining the reason for studying English in New Zealand, choice of course and provider, current academic or English background, intended progression or future plans, funding arrangements and relevant personal circumstances. The information should remain consistent with the online form and supporting evidence.
- Tuition Fee Evidence: Evidence that tuition fees have been paid, can be paid, or are not required. INZ generally requires evidence covering 1 course or 1 year of study, whichever is shorter. Eligible offshore applicants may choose to pay after approval in principle, but final evidence of payment is required before visa issue.
- Academic, English Background & Previous Study Evidence: Provide relevant academic certificates, transcripts and evidence of previous English study or current English level where useful to support the study plan. Returning New Zealand students should also provide progress and attendance evidence. A qualifying English test result is required where relied on for certain English-language student work rights.
- Sponsor / Financial Guarantor Evidence (where applicable): Where sponsorship is used, provide the sponsor information required by enhanced Immigration Online, including the sponsor’s sharing ID. INZ will then ask the sponsor to complete the online sponsorship process. Where a financial guarantor is used, provide the completed Financial Undertaking for a Student form (INZ 1014) together with the required financial evidence.
- Business/Company Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements for the last 6 months for business/company accounts, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
- Company TIN & ITR: Copy of the employer/company TIN certificate and copies of the company Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
- Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
- Personal TIN & ITR: Copy of the personal TIN certificate and Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
- Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
- Health Evidence: Provide a chest X-ray, medical examination and police certificates where INZ requires them. Bangladeshi applicants planning to stay in New Zealand for more than 6 months generally require a chest X-ray under INZ's tuberculosis screening rules.
- Police Clearance Certificate & Insurance: Police certificates are generally required for applicants aged 17 or older whose total New Zealand stay will be 24 months or longer. The student must also hold medical and travel insurance acceptable to the education provider from the start of the course until visa expiry, subject to applicable INZ exemptions.
- Minor Applicant Documents: For applicants under 18, provide birth certificate, parental consent, parent/legal guardian identification, proof of economic means of parents/legal guardian, and custody or guardianship documents where applicable. A student under 10 must normally live with a parent or legal guardian in New Zealand unless staying in an NZQA-approved school hostel.
