Ireland Visit Family/Friend Visa from Bangladesh

Short Stay C visa for visiting family members or friends living in Ireland.

    Last Updated: 30 August 2026

The Ireland Visit Family/Friend Visa is a Short Stay C visa for Bangladeshi nationals and eligible residents of Bangladesh travelling to Ireland to visit family members or friends for up to 90 days. In AVATS, applicants select “Short Stay (C)” and “Visit Family/Friend” as the reason for travel. It does not permit paid or unpaid work or access to publicly funded services.

The application should show the relationship with the person being visited, the invitation and accommodation arrangements, how the visit will be funded, and the applicant’s reasons to return. Applications from Bangladesh are handled by the New Delhi Visa Office and may be submitted by post to the Embassy in New Delhi or by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 6 months after the intended date of departure from Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Flight Reservation (Temporary): Provisional flight itinerary/reservation showing travel dates, route, and flight details, consistent with the planned schedule. Payment is not necessarily required at this stage.
    6. Invitation Letter: Signed and dated letter from the family member or friend in Ireland confirming the invitation, relationship, visit dates, and accommodation where applicable. Include a clear copy of the inviter’s passport or national identity document.
    7. Host Residence & Accommodation Evidence: If the inviter is a non-EU/EEA/Swiss national, include a copy of the current Irish Residence Permit and valid immigration permission. If staying at the inviter’s home, provide the full address and recent proof that the inviter lives there.
    8. Proof of Relationship or Personal Connection: Documents showing the relationship or connection between the applicant and the host, such as birth certificate, marriage certificate, family records, photos, communication history, or other relevant evidence, as applicable.
    9. Host Financial / Sponsorship Documents: If the host will support the visit, provide recent evidence of income and financial capacity, such as bank statements, salary/income proof, employment documents, tax records, or other support documents.
    10. Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming current professional, study, family, business, or property ties to the country of residence. For employed applicants, this commonly includes 3 recent payslips and an employer letter confirming leave and return to work.
    11. Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    12. Personal TIN & ITR: Copy of the personal TIN certificate and Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
    13. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh and normally show permission to remain for at least 3 months after the intended departure date from Ireland.
    14. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
    15. Minor Applicant Documents: For minors, provide birth certificate, parental consent, parent/legal guardian identification, proof of economic means of parents/legal guardian, and custody or guardianship documents where applicable.
    16. Travel / Medical Insurance: Evidence of insurance is not normally required with the initial Visit Family/Friend visa application unless requested by the Visa Officer. If the visa is approved, appropriate travel/medical insurance should be in place for the journey and may be requested at the Irish port of entry.

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm the Visit Family/Friend Category

For a temporary visit of up to 90 days, choose “Short Stay (C)” and “Visit Family / Visit Friend” as the reason for travel. Select single or multiple entry only as appropriate. Each traveller must make a separate application, including children.

    Step 2

Complete AVATS & Prepare the Summary

Complete AVATS fully and accurately, keep the Visa Application Transaction Number, and print, sign, and date the summary sheets. Supporting documents should normally be submitted within 30 days of creating the application.

    Step 3

    Establish the Relationship & Invitation

Prepare the inviter’s signed letter together with evidence of your family relationship or friendship. Include the inviter’s identity and Irish residence evidence where applicable, keeping names, addresses, dates, and relationship details consistent.

    Step 4

Show Accommodation, Funding & Return Ties

Provide a clear accommodation plan, explain who will pay for the visit, and arrange financial, employment, business, study, family, or property evidence that supports your intention to leave Ireland after the visit.

    Step 5

    Follow the Bangladesh Submission Instructions

Use the application office and submission details shown through AVATS. Bangladesh residents may post the file to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi or lodge it by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

Pay the Fee & Lodge the Application

Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport, supporting documents, required copies, and applicable fee. For direct Embassy submission, arrange the fee in advance by bank draft in Indian rupees payable to the Embassy of Ireland. For VFS submission, complete the applicable visa and VFS payments through the prescribed VFS process.

    Step 7

Follow the Decision & Check the Visa

Track available updates using the relevant application or VFS reference number. After processing, check the returned passport and visa details before travel.
