    Ireland Transit Visa from Bangladesh

    Transit visa guidance for airside connections through Ireland and entry-visa requirements where border control applies.

    Ireland applies a separate Transit Visa only to nationals of countries on its Transit Visa Required Countries list. Bangladesh is not currently on that list, so Bangladeshi passport holders do not need an Irish Transit Visa for a qualifying airside transit. However, if the connection requires passing Irish border control, a Bangladeshi traveller normally needs the appropriate Irish entry visa before travel. Residents of Bangladesh holding passports from a transit-visa-required country should apply for a Transit Visa where their connection qualifies.

    For Dublin Airport, a Transit Visa may be used for qualifying same-day Terminal 2 connections between 04:00 and 20:00. Leaving the terminal, collecting and rechecking baggage, transiting overnight, or another transfer that requires border control needs entry permission instead. Where a Transit Visa application is required from Bangladesh, the New Delhi Visa Office has jurisdiction; complete AVATS, select “Transit” as the reason for travel, and follow the submission instructions on the summary sheet. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 6 months after the intended date of departure from Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter stating full name and postal address, the complete transit plan, onward destination, and the names and addresses of any family members living in Ireland, the EU/EEA, or Switzerland.
    6. Travel Itinerary & Airline Bookings/Tickets: Confirmed or provisional itinerary and airline bookings/tickets showing the route through Ireland, connection details, departure dates, and final destination. Keep the itinerary consistent with the AVATS application and supporting documents.
    7. Visa / Entry Permission for Final Destination: Valid visa or other entry permission for the country of final destination where required. The expected permission should normally be obtained before the Irish Transit Visa application is submitted.
    8. Travel Through Other Countries / Required Visas: Where the journey involves another country before or after Ireland, provide the travel plan and any required transit or entry visas. If an expected visa has not been obtained, explain the reason in writing.
    9. Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming current professional, study, family, business, or property ties to the country of residence. For employed applicants, this commonly includes 3 recent payslips and an employer letter confirming leave and return to work.
    10. Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    11. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh and normally show permission to remain for at least 3 months after the intended departure date from Ireland.
    12. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
    13. Minor Applicant Documents: For minors, provide birth certificate, parental consent, parent/legal guardian identification, proof of economic means of parents/legal guardian, and custody or guardianship documents where applicable. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Check Whether a Transit Visa Applies

    Bangladeshi passport holders are not currently transit-visa-required. Other residents of Bangladesh should check whether their nationality appears on Ireland’s Transit Visa Required Countries list.

    Step 2

    Confirm Airside or Border-Control Transit

    Check the airport, terminal, baggage, and connection rules. If the journey requires Irish border control, a visa-required traveller needs the appropriate Irish entry visa instead of a Transit Visa.

    Step 3

    Complete AVATS if Required

    Where a Transit Visa is required, complete AVATS accurately, select “Transit” as the reason for travel and the appropriate journey type, then print, sign, and date the summary sheets.

    Step 4

    Prepare Onward Travel & Supporting Evidence

    Provide itinerary and tickets, final-destination permission, other required transit/entry visas, residence evidence, translations, and previous refusal records, keeping the full journey consistent.

    Step 5

    Follow the Submission Instructions

    Follow the AVATS directions. Bangladesh residents may submit by post to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi or by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

    Pay Fees & Submit the File

    Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport, supporting documents, required copies, and applicable fees. The Transit Visa fee is INR 2,225; follow the application office or VFS payment instructions.

    Step 7

    Check the Decision & Transit Conditions

    If approved, verify the visa details and carry your onward travel permissions. A Transit Visa permits transit only and does not allow entry into Ireland for another purpose.
