    Ireland Medical Treatment Visa from Bangladesh

    Short Stay C visa for eligible private medical treatment in Ireland for up to 90 days.

    The Ireland Medical Treatment Visa is a Short Stay C visa for Bangladeshi nationals and eligible residents of Bangladesh travelling to Ireland for private medical treatment for up to 90 days. It applies where the required procedure cannot be performed in the applicant’s country of permanent residence, an appointment is confirmed with a private hospital in Ireland, and the treatment can be paid for in full.

    Applications from Bangladesh fall under the New Delhi Visa Office. After completing AVATS, applicants print and sign the summary form and follow its submission instructions. The file may be sent to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi by post or lodged by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 6 months after the intended date of departure from Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter explaining the medical-treatment purpose, intended travel dates, treatment and accommodation plan, estimated total visit and treatment costs, funding responsibility, and commitment to follow the visa conditions and leave Ireland before the permitted stay expires.
    6. Referring Hospital / Doctor Letter: Original letter on official headed paper confirming the applicant’s diagnosis and prognosis, treatment required, why the procedure cannot be carried out in the country of residence, communication with the Irish private hospital, fitness to travel and leave after treatment, and whether suitable treatment is available in a closer country.
    7. Irish Private Hospital Letter: Original letter from the private hospital in Ireland confirming the appointment and medical necessity, treating doctor/hospital details, admission and expected discharge dates, anticipated recovery period, estimated treatment cost in euro, and confirmation that Irish public funds or resources will not be used for the treatment.
    8. Flight Reservation: Provisional flight itinerary/reservation showing the intended travel dates, consistent with the application. Applicants should avoid purchasing non-refundable travel tickets before a visa decision.
    9. Hotel Reservation / Accommodation Booking: Booking confirmation covering the intended stay dates, showing the applicant name, accommodation name/address, check-in/out dates, and booking reference; consistent with the travel plan.
    10. Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming current professional, study, family, business, or property ties to the country of residence. For employed applicants, this commonly includes 3 recent payslips and an employer letter confirming leave and return to work.
    11. Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    12. Personal TIN & ITR: Copy of the personal TIN certificate and Income Tax Return (ITR) for the last 3 tax years, along with the acknowledgement receipts.
    13. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh and normally show permission to remain for at least 3 months after the intended departure date from Ireland.
    14. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when travelling with spouse or children.
    15. Minor Applicant Documents: For minors, provide birth certificate, parental consent, parent/legal guardian identification, proof of economic means of parents/legal guardian, and custody or guardianship documents where applicable.
    16. Travel / Medical Insurance: Provide evidence of travel and medical insurance covering the full duration of the stay in Ireland, including risks associated with the planned medical treatment. The policy or insurance certificate should clearly show the relevant coverage. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm Medical Treatment Eligibility

    Confirm that the procedure cannot be carried out in the country of permanent residence, that a private Irish hospital has accepted the case, and that the full treatment cost can be met without relying on Irish public services.

    Step 2

    Complete AVATS for Medical Treatment

    Complete AVATS accurately, select “Short Stay (C)” and “Medical treatment”, record the Visa Application Transaction Number, then print, sign, and date the summary sheets. Supporting documents should normally be sent within 30 days of creating the application.

    Step 3

    Secure Both Medical Letters

    Obtain the referring hospital letter and the Irish private hospital letter. The diagnosis, treatment need, appointment dates, expected recovery, fitness to travel, and treatment cost should be clear and consistent across both documents.

    Step 4

    Show Costs, Funding, Insurance & Return Plan

    Provide treatment and travel costs, funding evidence, appropriate insurance, accommodation details, and clear evidence of your intention to return after treatment.

    Step 5

    Follow the Bangladesh Submission Route

    Follow the submission instructions generated through AVATS. Bangladesh residents may be directed to send the application to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi by post or lodge it by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

    Lodge the File & Applicable Visa Fee

    Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport, supporting documents, required copies, and applicable fee. For direct Embassy submission, arrange the visa fee in advance by bank draft in Indian rupees, made payable to the Embassy of Ireland. For VFS submission, complete the applicable visa and VFS payments through the prescribed VFS process.

    Step 7

    Follow the Decision & Check the Visa

    Use the available application or VFS reference details for updates. If approved, check the visa before travel and carry key medical, funding, accommodation, and insurance evidence for presentation at the Irish border if requested.
