    Ireland Join Family - UK National Visa from Bangladesh

    Long Stay D visa for eligible non-EEA family members joining a UK national sponsor in Ireland.

    The Ireland Join Family - UK National Visa is a Long Stay D visa for Bangladeshi nationals and eligible residents of Bangladesh who intend to live in Ireland for more than 90 days with an eligible UK national family sponsor. The scheme can cover a spouse, civil partner, de facto partner, dependent child, or qualifying dependent parent aged 66 or over, subject to the relationship, dependency and sponsor conditions.

    This post-Brexit scheme applies where the UK national came to live in Ireland after 31 December 2020. If the UK national was living in Ireland on or before that date, Withdrawal Agreement arrangements may apply instead. Applicants must apply from outside Ireland, from their home country or a country of legal residence, and remain outside Ireland while the application is processed. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 12 months from the proposed date of entry into Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter explaining the family-reunification purpose, intended residence in Ireland, UK national sponsor, address history, relevant family members, other passports held, and commitment to comply with Irish immigration conditions.
    6. Relationship & Dependency Evidence: State-issued and supporting documents proving the claimed family relationship and, where required, dependency. Depending on the category, this may include marriage/civil partnership records, evidence of a genuine relationship and cohabitation, birth/adoption records, custody documents, or evidence of sustained financial and personal dependency.
    7. UK National Sponsor Passport & Sponsorship Letter: Full colour copy of the sponsor’s current UK passport, copies of other current and previous passports, and a signed sponsorship letter confirming the family application, address history, relevant sponsorship history, and other information required under the scheme.
    8. Sponsor Financial & Employment Evidence: Up-to-date 6-month bank statements for all accounts, tax records for the previous 3 years, and evidence of current employment or self-employment. The sponsor should also show sufficient income and resources to meet the applicable scheme threshold and support the family without relying on public funds.
    9. Applicant Bank Statements: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    10. Accommodation in Ireland: Evidence that suitable accommodation has been arranged for the applicant and family in Ireland without recourse to public funds, including the address, occupancy arrangement, and relevant accommodation costs.
    11. Police Clearance Certificate: Applicants aged over 16 must provide a police clearance certificate, not more than 6 months old, from the current country of residence and any country where they have lived during the 5 years before applying.
    12. Proof of Legal Residence & Immigration History: Applicants applying from a country other than their nationality should provide evidence of lawful residence there.
    13. Private Medical Insurance: Evidence of private medical insurance for 1 year from the proposed date of entry, from a company authorised by the Health Insurance Authority of Ireland. A sponsor’s qualifying group insurance may be used where it provides the required private healthcare cover from arrival. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm the UK National Family Scheme

    Confirm that the UK sponsor and family relationship fall under this post-Brexit scheme and that the intended residence in Ireland will exceed 90 days.

    Step 2

    Complete AVATS & Print the Summary

    Complete AVATS accurately for the Join Family (UK National) application, then print, sign, and date the summary sheets. Supporting documents should normally be submitted within 30 days of creating the AVATS application.

    Step 3

    Build the Relationship & Dependency File

    Provide the civil, relationship, cohabitation, custody, support, or dependency evidence relevant to the family category and keep the history consistent across the application.

    Step 4

    Establish Sponsor Capacity & Accommodation

    Prepare the UK sponsor’s passport, sponsorship letter, income and employment records, bank evidence, and suitable accommodation documents together with the applicant’s required supporting records.

    Step 5

    Follow the Bangladesh Submission Route

    Follow the AVATS summary instructions. Bangladesh residents may submit by post to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi or by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

    Pay Fees & Submit the File

    Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport, supporting documents, required copies, and applicable fees. Embassy submissions require a bank draft in Indian rupees; VFS submissions follow the prescribed VFS payment process.

    Step 7

    Follow the Queue & Prepare for Registration

    Follow available updates using the relevant application or VFS reference number. After processing, collect the returned passport and check the visa details before travel.
