Ireland Join Family - Non-EEA National Visa from Bangladesh

Long Stay D visa for eligible family members joining a qualifying non-EEA sponsor in Ireland.

    Last Updated: 30 August 2026

The Ireland Join Family - Non-EEA National Visa is a Long Stay D visa for visa-required non-EEA nationals who intend to live in Ireland for more than 90 days with an eligible non-EEA/non-Swiss/non-UK sponsor. This page covers the AVATS subtypes for spouse/civil partner, de facto partner, and other eligible family members, including unmarried minor children and certain dependent adult relatives.

Sponsor eligibility and timing depend on the sponsor’s Irish immigration status. Category B sponsors can generally reunite with their nuclear family without a waiting period, while Category C sponsors normally become eligible after one year of lawful work in Ireland. De facto partners and dependent adult relatives also have additional permission and evidence requirements. Applications from Bangladesh fall under the New Delhi jurisdiction.

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 12 months from the proposed date of entry to Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter explaining the purpose of joining the non-EEA sponsor, the family subtype, intended residence in Ireland, sponsor details, relationship history where relevant, and commitment to comply with the conditions of any permission granted.
    6. Sponsor Identity, Residence & Immigration Status: Clear copies of the sponsor’s passport, Irish Residence Permit or registration evidence, and the permission supporting sponsorship. Include the current Employment Permit, Hosting Agreement, or other documentary evidence.
    7. Sponsor Eligibility & Waiting-Period Evidence: Evidence showing that the sponsor falls within an eligible Category B or Category C group and has completed any required residence or employment period. Category B nuclear-family cases normally have no waiting period; Category C nuclear-family cases generally require one year of lawful work in Ireland.
    8. Spouse / Civil Partner Relationship Evidence: For the spouse/civil-partner subtype, provide the original marriage or civil-partnership certificate capable of recognition under Irish law. Where relevant, include a documented relationship history, face-to-face meetings, travel records, photographs, correspondence, and evidence of an ongoing relationship.
    9. De Facto Partner Relationship & Permission Evidence: For the de facto-partner subtype, provide evidence of a genuine and continuing relationship, normally including at least 2 years of cohabitation, shared-address records, financial interdependence, relationship history, and any preclearance or scheme-specific evidence required for the sponsor’s immigration category.
    10. Other Family Member / Child / Dependency Evidence: For an unmarried minor child, provide birth or adoption records, current-location evidence, and custody or parental-consent documents where applicable. Dependent parents and qualifying dependent adult children must first obtain Stamp 0 approval and provide the approval letter, dependency, financial, medical, and accommodation evidence required for that process.
    11. Sponsor Financial & Employment Evidence: Provide financial records showing that the sponsor meets the current family-reunification threshold for the relevant sponsor and family category. This normally includes 6 months of bank statements, employment or self-employment evidence, recent payslips where applicable, Revenue records, and an employment contract or projected earnings evidence when required.
    12. Applicant & Sponsor Bank Statements: Provide detailed bank statements for the applicant and sponsor covering the 6 months immediately before application. Printed internet statements may be accepted when officially certified by the bank; significant or unusual transactions should be clearly explained and supported.
    13. Accommodation Evidence: Provide details of the intended accommodation in Ireland. Category C sponsors must be able to demonstrate suitable accommodation if requested, including RTB and ACCOM1 evidence for rented property or ownership and occupancy details for an owned property. Additional accommodation rules apply where children or dependent adult relatives are joining.
    14. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh and normally show permission to remain for at least 3 months after the intended departure date from Ireland.
    15. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): A valid police clearance certificate issued by the appropriate authority, confirming the applicant’s criminal record status.
    16. Travel / Medical Insurance: For standard Join Family spouse or child applications, insurance is not normally required with the initial visa file unless requested, but suitable cover should be available for travel. De facto partners and dependent adult relatives must provide the private medical insurance required under their specific scheme.

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

Identify the Sponsor Category & Family Subtype

Identify whether the sponsor is Category B or Category C and whether the application is for a spouse/civil partner, de facto partner, minor child, dependent adult relative, or another exceptional family case.

    Step 2

Check Waiting Periods & Prior Permissions

Confirm that the sponsor has completed any required period in Ireland. Nuclear-family applications can generally proceed immediately for Category B sponsors and after one year for Category C sponsors; dependent adult relatives require longer sponsor residence and prior Stamp 0 approval.

    Step 3

Complete AVATS for the Correct Subtype

Complete a Long Stay (D) application and choose the relevant Non-EEA family reason: spouse, de facto partner, or other. Print, sign, and date the AVATS summary and keep all relationship and sponsor details consistent with the supporting file.

    Step 4

Prepare the Relationship, Financial & Sponsor File

Prepare the relationship evidence together with the sponsor’s immigration status, income, bank records, employment, accommodation, and any cohabitation, custody, dependency, medical, or prior-approval evidence required for the subtype.

    Step 5

    Follow the Bangladesh Submission Instructions

Follow the AVATS directions. Bangladesh residents may submit by post to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi or by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

Pay the Applicable Fees & Submit

Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport, original supporting documents, required copies, and applicable visa fee. Embassy submissions follow an in advance bank draft in Indian rupee; VFS submissions require the prescribed visa and service-fee payments.

    Step 7

Check the Decision & Complete Registration

After a positive decision, travel with the key supporting records and declare the family-reunification purpose at the border. Family members staying more than 90 days must register the immigration permission granted for their specific family and sponsor category.
