    Ireland Join Family - Irish National Visa from Bangladesh

    The Ireland Join Family - Irish National Visa is a Long Stay D visa for visa-required non-EEA nationals who intend to live in Ireland for more than 90 days with an eligible Irish-national sponsor. This page covers the Irish-national family subtypes for spouse/civil partner, de facto partner, and other eligible family members, including unmarried minor children.

    The requirements differ by relationship. De facto partners follow a dedicated scheme and must normally show at least two years of cohabitation. Dependent parents and dependent adult children require prior Stamp 0 approval before the entry-visa stage, while other relatives are generally considered only in exceptional circumstances. Applications from Bangladesh fall under the New Delhi jurisdiction. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 12 months from the proposed date of entry to Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter explaining the purpose of joining the Irish-national sponsor, the relevant family subtype, intended residence in Ireland, sponsor details, relationship background, and the applicant’s proposed living and support arrangements in Ireland.
    6. Irish National Sponsor Evidence: Clear copy of the sponsor’s valid Irish passport or other evidence of Irish citizenship. If the sponsor is living outside Ireland, also provide evidence of lawful residence there and the intended residence arrangement in Ireland.
    7. Spouse / Civil Partner Relationship Evidence: For this subtype, provide a marriage or civil-partnership certificate capable of recognition under Irish law. Where the couple has not lived together since the marriage or partnership, include a clear relationship history supported by relevant contact, travel, meeting, and shared-life evidence.
    8. De Facto Partner Relationship Evidence: Provide dated evidence of a genuine and continuing relationship, including at least 2 years of cohabitation before the application, relationship history, shared-address records, financial interdependence, and evidence of the intention to live together permanently in Ireland.
    9. Other Family Member / Dependency & Prior Approval Evidence: For an unmarried minor child, provide birth, adoption, custody and consent evidence as applicable. A dependent parent or dependent adult child must first obtain the required Stamp 0 approval and provide the approval letter, dependency evidence, and medical records where relevant. Other relatives are generally considered only in exceptional circumstances.
    10. Sponsor Financial, Income & Accommodation Evidence: Provide evidence that the Irish sponsor meets the current financial criteria for the relevant family type, normally including 6 months of bank statements, employment or self-employment records, tax evidence, and suitable accommodation details. Only one sponsor’s income is counted toward the policy threshold.
    11. Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    12. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh and ensure the application is lodged from a country where they are legally resident, in line with the AVATS submission instructions.
    13. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): A valid police clearance certificate issued by the appropriate authority, confirming the applicant’s criminal record status.
    14. Travel / Medical Insurance: For standard Join Family spouse or child applications, insurance is not normally required with the initial visa file unless requested, but suitable cover should be available for travel. De facto partners and dependent adult relatives must provide the private medical insurance required under their specific scheme. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Identify the Irish-National Family Subtype

    Confirm whether the application is for a spouse/civil partner, de facto partner, minor child, dependent adult relative, or another exceptional family case. The evidence and permission steps are not identical.

    Step 2

    Check Sponsor & Prior-Approval Conditions

    Confirm the Irish sponsor’s eligibility and current financial position. De facto partners follow a dedicated scheme, while dependent parents and dependent adult children must obtain Stamp 0 approval before the entry-visa stage.

    Step 3

    Complete AVATS for the Correct Family Category

    Complete the Long Stay (D) application using the Irish-national family reason that matches the relationship, then print, sign, and date the AVATS summary. Keep all subtype details consistent with the supporting file.

    Step 4

    Prepare the Relationship, Funding & Dependency File

    Present the relationship evidence together with sponsor finances, accommodation, applicant records, and any cohabitation, custody, dependency, medical, or prior-approval evidence required for the family subtype.

    Step 5

    Follow the Bangladesh Submission Instructions

    Follow the AVATS directions. Bangladesh residents may submit by post to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi or by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

    Apply the Correct Fee Treatment & Submit

    Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport and supporting evidence. Spouses and qualifying children under 18 are visa-fee exempt when the required relationship evidence is provided; other applicants pay the applicable fee unless another exemption applies. Embassy submissions require a bank draft in Indian rupees; VFS submissions follow the prescribed VFS payment process.

    Step 7

    Travel & Register the Correct Permission

    If approved, travel with the key supporting records and declare the family-reunification purpose at the border. Register the appropriate permission after arrival; nuclear family members generally receive Stamp 4, while dependent adult relatives are admitted on Stamp 0.
