    Ireland Employment - Scientific Researcher Visa from Bangladesh

    The Ireland Employment - Scientific Researcher Visa is a Long Stay D visa for Bangladeshi nationals and eligible residents of Bangladesh coming to Ireland for more than 90 days to carry out research under a Hosting Agreement with an accredited Irish research organisation. This category is based on the Hosting Agreement and is separate from the standard DETE Employment Permit-based Employment Visa.

    Applications from Bangladesh are handled under the New Delhi Visa Office. After completing AVATS, applicants follow the submission instructions generated for the application. The file may be sent to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi by post or lodged by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 12 months after the proposed date of arrival in Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter explaining the research purpose, intended duration of stay, accommodation in Ireland, relevant family details in Ireland or another EU Member State, funding arrangements, and commitment to comply with the visa and immigration conditions.
    6. Hosting Agreement: Copy of the Hosting Agreement with an accredited Irish research organisation, clearly relating to the applicant, proposed research activity, host organisation, and intended research period in Ireland.
    7. Contract of Employment (if issued): Copy of the employment contract issued by the research organisation, where applicable, showing the research position, employment period, remuneration, and other relevant terms.
    8. Research Funding / Cost-Coverage Evidence (where applicable): Where the research organisation, university, government body, or another third party will cover any costs, provide clear details and documentary evidence of the funding arrangement.
    9. Personal Bank Statements & Solvency Certificate: Original bank statements (personal and/or salary account) for the last 6 months, issued by the bank and showing the bank name and contact details. Statements must be stamped and signed by an authorized bank officer (e-statements not accepted), and accompanied by a bank solvency/financial standing certificate where required.
    10. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence that they are lawfully and ordinarily resident in Bangladesh and are eligible to submit the visa application from Bangladesh.
    11. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): A valid police clearance certificate issued by the appropriate authority, confirming the applicant’s criminal record status.
    12. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate, or family-related documents where applicable, especially when family circumstances are relevant to the application.
    13. Travel / Medical Insurance: Evidence of insurance is not normally required with the initial Employment Visa application unless requested by the Visa Officer. If the visa is approved, appropriate travel/medical insurance should be in place for the journey and may be requested at the Irish port of entry. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm the Hosting Agreement Basis

    Confirm that the research position is supported by a Hosting Agreement with an accredited Irish research organisation. This category is distinct from the standard DETE Employment Permit-based Employment Visa.

    Step 2

    Complete AVATS for the Researcher Category

    For research exceeding 90 days, complete AVATS using “Long Stay (D)” and “Employment (Scientific Researcher)”, then print, sign, and date the summary form.

    Step 3

    Match the Research & Host Evidence

    Check that the Hosting Agreement, contract if issued, research period, host organisation, role, and funding details are consistent across the file.

    Step 4

    Prepare Finances & Supporting Records

    Arrange 6-month finances, funding evidence, residence records, family details, refusal history, required translations or attestation, and other applicable supporting documents.

    Step 5

    Follow the Bangladesh Submission Route

    Follow the AVATS instructions. Bangladesh residents may submit by post to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi or by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

    Pay Fees & Lodge the Application

    Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport, supporting documents, required copies, and applicable fees. Embassy submissions use the prescribed bank-draft process; VFS submissions follow the applicable VFS payment procedure.

    Step 7

    Check the Decision & Prepare for Arrival

    If approved, check the visa details and travel with the Hosting Agreement, key research documents, and insurance evidence. For a stay over 90 days, complete the required immigration registration after arrival.
