    Ireland Atypical Working Scheme Visa from Bangladesh

    The Ireland Atypical Working Scheme (AWS) Visa is for Bangladeshi nationals and eligible residents of Bangladesh who have first received an Atypical Working Scheme Letter of Approval from Immigration Service Delivery (ISD) for qualifying work that falls outside standard Employment Permit arrangements. The Scheme can cover specialised or high-skill short-term assignments, certain paid internships, locum doctor work, and nurses undertaking approved clinical adaptation or RCSI assessment. General AWS permission is normally limited to 90 days, while only specified categories may be approved for longer periods.

    For visa-required applicants, AWS approval is a prerequisite and is not itself an entry visa. For standard AWS employment in AVATS, select “Employment” as the reason for travel and enter “Atypical Working Scheme” as the purpose. Use Short Stay (C) for an approved stay of 90 days or less and Long Stay (D) only where the AWS approval permits a stay over 90 days. Applications from Bangladesh fall under the New Delhi Visa Office and follow the submission instructions generated by AVATS. 

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport (Original): Original passport valid for at least 12 months after the proposed date of arrival in Ireland, with sufficient blank space for the visa. Submit the current passport together with the required copies.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Full clear copies of previous passports, including relevant visa and immigration pages, where available. Travel history should be disclosed consistently with the AVATS application.
    3. Photograph (Ireland Visa Format): Provide 2 recent colour passport photographs that meet Ireland visa photograph requirements. Sign your name and write the AVATS Visa Application Transaction Number on the back of each photograph.
    4. AVATS Application Summary Sheets: Printed AVATS summary sheets completed for the applicant, signed and dated. Keep the Visa Application Transaction Number and submit the summary sheets with the passport and supporting documents.
    5. Cover Letter: Applicant’s signed letter explaining the approved work purpose, intended duration, accommodation arrangement, relevant family details in Ireland/EU, and commitment to comply with the visa, AWS permission, and immigration conditions.
    6. Atypical Working Scheme Approval Letter: Copy of the valid Letter of Approval issued by Immigration Service Delivery under the Atypical Working Scheme. The approval letter is valid for 90 days from its issue date and must be used within that period.
    7. Contract of Employment / Assignment Agreement: Signed and dated contract or assignment document showing the approved employer or sending entity, Irish host where relevant, role, salary, work dates, location, and other terms consistent with the AWS approval.
    8. Letter from Irish Host / Employer: Letter on official headed paper confirming the approved employment, internship, placement, or service arrangement, including the role, salary, duration, work location, and relevant contact details.
    9. Category-Specific Eligibility Evidence: Supporting records required for the approved AWS category, where applicable, such as professional registration, academic institution letters, internship confirmation, clinical adaptation/RCSI evidence, or other documents supporting the specialised role.
    10. Evidence of Return Obligations (Short Stay C): For an AWS stay of 90 days or less, provide relevant evidence of family, professional, study, financial, property, or other commitments supporting the intention to leave Ireland when the approved permission ends.
    11. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh and normally show permission to remain for at least 3 months after the intended departure date from Ireland.
    12. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC): A valid police clearance certificate issued by the appropriate authority, confirming the applicant’s criminal record status.
    13. Travel / Medical Insurance: Evidence of insurance is not normally required with the initial short-stay AWS visa application unless requested by the Visa Officer. If the visa is approved, appropriate travel/medical insurance should be in place for entry to Ireland. Applicants staying more than 90 days must also meet the medical insurance requirements applicable to immigration registration. 

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

    Confirm AWS Eligibility

    Confirm that the proposed work fits the Atypical Working Scheme and is not more appropriately covered by a DETE Employment Permit, Van der Elst permission, business visit, or another immigration category.

    Step 2

    Obtain the AWS Letter of Approval

    Apply online from outside Ireland, upload the category-specific documents, and pay the €250 AWS application fee. Do not apply for the Irish visa before the Letter of Approval is issued.

    Step 3

    Match AVATS to the Approved Duration

    For standard AWS employment, select “Employment” and enter “Atypical Working Scheme” as the purpose. Use Short Stay (C) for 90 days or less and Long Stay (D) only where the approval permits more than 90 days.

    Step 4

    Prepare the Application Documents

    Arrange the AWS approval, contract and host records, passport, residence and return evidence, previous refusal documents, translations, insurance records, and other applicable supporting documents.

    Step 5

    Follow the Submission Instructions

    Follow the AVATS directions. Bangladesh residents may submit by post to the Embassy of Ireland in New Delhi or by appointment at the Ireland Visa Application Centre in Kolkata.

    Step 6

    Pay Visa/VFS Fees & Submit the File

    Submit the signed AVATS summary, passport, supporting documents, required copies, and applicable fees. Embassy submissions use the prescribed bank-draft process; VFS submissions follow the applicable VFS payment procedure.

    Step 7

    Travel Within the Approval & Register if Required

    Follow available updates using the relevant application or VFS reference number. After processing, collect the returned passport and check the visa details before travel.
