Canada Visitor Visa - Spouse or Partner with PR Sponsorship in Process from Bangladesh

Visitor Visa (TRV) for spouses or partners with a Canadian permanent-residence sponsorship application in process, including eligible faster processing after AOR.

    Last Updated: 31 August 2026

The Canada Visitor Visa, formally a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), can be used by a Bangladeshi spouse or partner who has been sponsored for Canadian permanent residence and wishes to visit their sponsor while the PR application is being processed. IRCC lists this as a specific visitor purpose and may provide faster Visitor Visa processing once an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) confirms the sponsorship application is in progress.

A pending PR application does not prevent a temporary visit. Canada recognizes dual intent, but the applicant must still meet all Visitor Visa requirements, be admissible, have credible financial and accommodation arrangements, and comply with the authorized temporary stay if permanent residence is not yet finalized. Applications are normally submitted online, followed by biometrics at a Canada Visa Application Centre (VAC) where required and passport submission only after an IRCC request.

    Document Checklist

    1. Passport: Valid passport for the intended trip to Canada. Provide a clear colour copy of the biographical page and pages containing stamps, visas or other markings; IRCC currently advises the travel document should generally be valid for at least 6 months from the planned travel date.
    2. Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application. IRCC may consider travel evidence from the previous 10 years.
    3. IRCC Online Application, Forms & Personalized Checklist: Complete the Visitor Visa application through the appropriate IRCC account and upload all required documents. Applicants aged 18 or over must complete IMM 5645 (Family Information Form). Where applicable, also complete IMM 5257 SCH1 (Schedule 1) and any additional forms requested by IRCC, then pay the applicable fees.
    4. Cover Letter: Applicant's signed letter explaining the temporary visit to the sponsored spouse or partner, intended travel dates, PR sponsorship status, accommodation, trip funding and relevant personal circumstances. It should clearly distinguish the temporary visit from the permanent residence application and remain consistent with both files.
    5. PR Sponsorship Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) & Application Evidence: Provide the AOR confirming the spouse/partner sponsorship application is in process, together with the PR application number/UCI or other relevant IRCC correspondence. An AOR is required to benefit from IRCC's faster-processing measure for eligible spousal Visitor Visa applicants.
    6. Invitation Letter, Relationship & Sponsor Status: Provide a signed invitation from the spouse or partner in Canada explaining the relationship, purpose and duration of the visit, accommodation, funding and planned departure. Include appropriate relationship evidence, such as a marriage certificate or IMM 5409 where applicable, plus proof of the sponsor's Canadian status and address. If the sponsor will fund the visit, add credible supporting financial evidence.
    7. Accommodation Evidence: If staying with the sponsor, provide the Canadian address and supporting residence evidence together with the invitation letter. If using commercial accommodation, provide booking confirmation covering the intended stay and consistent with the visit plan.
    8. Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming your current professional status and ties to your home country, such as employment certificates, leave approval, pay slips, salary statements, study evidence or business-related documents. These should be recent, consistent with your application and support your ongoing occupation and expected return after the visit.
    9. Employer / Study / Business Supporting Letter: Where applicable, provide a letter confirming the applicant's role or enrolment, salary or relevant status, length of employment or study, approved leave and expected continuation after the visit. For employed applicants, provide a recent employer letter on official letterhead with employment, salary and employer contact details, along with recent 6 months’ payslips to support ongoing employment and declared income.
    10. Business/Company Financial Evidence (where applicable): Self-employed applicants may provide recent business bank statements, ownership evidence and other records that help demonstrate active business operations, income and the source of funds used for the trip.
    11. Business Registration & Tax Records (where applicable): Relevant Trade License, Incorporation Certificate, company registration documents, TIN and Income Tax Return records may be included where they support the applicant's business status, income and ties to Bangladesh.
    12. Personal Bank Statements & Financial Evidence: Provide at least 6 months of personal and/or salary account details showing the account holder, balances, transaction history and bank contact information. Add other credible financial evidence where relevant to explain income, savings and the source and availability of trip funds.
    13. Personal TIN & ITR: Personal TIN certificate and recent Income Tax Return records may be included to support declared income, financial history and economic ties where relevant to the applicant's circumstances.
    14. Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
    15. Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate or family-related documents where applicable, especially when they help explain family composition, accompanying travellers or ties outside Canada.
    16. Minor Applicant Documents: For applicants under 18, provide birth certificate, parental or legal guardian authorization where applicable, parent/legal guardian identification, relevant financial support evidence and custody or guardianship documents where required.

    Process Roadmap

    Step 1

Confirm PR Sponsorship, AOR & Visitor Eligibility

Confirm that the spouse/partner PR sponsorship application has been submitted and, for faster spousal processing, that an AOR confirms it is in progress. The applicant must still meet all Visitor Visa requirements.

    Step 2

Apply Online for the Sponsored Spouse/Partner Visit

Apply through the IRCC Portal, IRCC Secure Account or other account directed by IRCC, select the purpose of visiting a spouse or partner who has sponsored you for PR, and follow the personalized document checklist.

    Step 3

Upload Supporting Evidence, Pay Fees & Submit

Upload the AOR, invitation, relationship and sponsor-status evidence, travel plan, finances and occupation documents. Pay CAD 100 for the Visitor Visa plus the biometrics fee where required, then submit online.

    Step 4

Receive the BIL & Book a VAC Appointment

If biometrics are required, wait for the IRCC Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL), then upload it and book a free appointment at a Canada VAC in Bangladesh.

    Step 5

Attend the VAC & Give Biometrics

Attend in person with the BIL and required identification to provide fingerprints and a photograph. The VAC transmits biometric information to IRCC but does not decide the visa application.

    Step 6

IRCC Assesses the Visitor Visa & Dual Intent

IRCC assesses the temporary-residence application separately from the PR file. Dual intent is recognized, but all Visitor Visa requirements still apply; IRCC may request additional evidence or verification.

    Step 7

Submit Passport after IRCC Request & Prepare to Travel

If IRCC issues a Passport Request Letter, book the required passport-submission appointment and submit the passport through a Canada VAC. After return, check the visa details; final admission and the authorized stay are decided at the border.

    Common Rejection Pitfalls

The PR sponsorship is not clearly linked to the Visitor Visa application

    How UnivEase helps

We help align the AOR, PR application number/UCI, sponsor details and invitation so IRCC can clearly identify the pending sponsorship and the purpose of the temporary visit.

Dual intent is presented as if PR sponsorship guarantees temporary entry

    How UnivEase helps

We help explain the temporary visit within Canada's dual-intent framework, including the applicant's plan to respect visitor conditions if the PR application is still pending or is not approved.

Relationship or sponsor evidence is unclear

    How UnivEase helps

We cross-check marriage/common-law evidence, sponsor status and address, invitation details and relevant PR-file information for consistency across both applications.

Funding, accommodation or stay details is poorly explained

    How UnivEase helps

We review applicant and sponsor funding, accommodation arrangements, visit duration and supporting records so the temporary stay is practical, credible and clearly documented.
