Document Checklist
- Passport: Valid passport for the intended trip to Canada. Provide a clear colour copy of the biographical page and pages containing stamps, visas or other markings; IRCC currently advises the travel document should generally be valid for the planned travel and study period.
- Previous Passport(s) & Travel History: Copies of previous passport(s), visas and relevant entry/exit records to support the applicant's travel history and ensure consistency with the information declared in the application. IRCC may consider travel evidence from the previous 10 years.
- IRCC Online Application, Forms & Personalized Checklist: Apply online through the IRCC Secure Account. Complete IMM 1294 and IMM 5707 for applicants aged 18 or over; include IMM 5257 SCH1 and other forms where applicable, upload the personalized checklist documents and pay the required fees.
- Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a DLI: Provide the official LOA for the master's or doctoral degree programme, showing the institution, programme, tuition and study dates. The DLI must verify the LOA with IRCC when requested.
- PAL/TAL Exemption / Quebec Requirement: From 1 January 2026, degree-granting master's and doctoral students at public DLIs are PAL/TAL-exempt. Other cases may still require a PAL/TAL. Quebec applicants must meet the applicable CAQ requirements.
- Study Plan, Academic & Research Evidence: Provide the one-page study plan requested by the Singapore visa office, relevant notarized university/college diplomas and transcripts, and a CV where required. Add research proposal, supervisor/departmental evidence and language-test results where relevant to the programme and admission.
- Tuition, Funding & Financial Support: Provide tuition/deposit receipts where paid and scholarship, assistantship, research grant or loan evidence where applicable. Show first-year tuition, transportation and current living funds of CAD 22,895 for one applicant outside Quebec, plus a credible funding plan for the full programme.
- Personal Bank Statements & Financial Evidence: Provide 6 months of bank history showing the account holder, balances and transactions, together with a clear source-of-funds explanation. Add other credible financial evidence where relevant.
- Proof of Occupation: Documents confirming your current professional status and ties to your home country, such as employment certificates, leave approval, pay slips, salary statements, study evidence or business-related documents. These should be recent, consistent with your application and support your ongoing occupation and expected return after the visit.
- Employer / Study / Business Supporting Letter: Where applicable, provide a letter confirming the applicant's role or enrolment, salary or relevant status, length of employment or study, approved leave and expected continuation after the visit. For employed applicants, provide a recent employer letter on official letterhead with employment, salary and employer contact details, along with recent 6 months' payslips to support ongoing employment and declared income.
- Business/Company Financial Evidence (where applicable): Self-employed applicants may provide recent business bank statements, ownership evidence and other records that help demonstrate active business operations, income and the source of funds used for the trip.
- Business Registration & Tax Records (where applicable): Relevant Trade License, Incorporation Certificate, company registration documents, TIN and Income Tax Return records may be included where they support the applicant's business status, income and ties to Bangladesh.
- Personal TIN & ITR: Personal TIN certificate and recent Income Tax Return records may be included to support declared income, financial history and economic ties where relevant to the applicant's circumstances.
- Sponsor Income & Relationship Evidence (where applicable): If funded by parents or another sponsor, provide relationship evidence, employment or business records, tax documents and a clear explanation of the sponsor's financial capacity and source of funds.
- Proof of Legal Residence in Bangladesh (where applicable): Applicants who are not Bangladeshi nationals should provide evidence of lawful residence in Bangladesh.
- Civil Status Documents: Marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, birth certificate or family-related documents where applicable, especially when they help explain family composition, accompanying travellers or ties outside Canada.
- Police Certificate & Immigration Medical Examination: Provide police certificates for each country or territory where you have lived for 6 consecutive months or longer since age 18. Complete an IRCC medical examination with a panel physician.
Process Roadmap
Step 1
Confirm the Graduate Programme, DLI & Study Permit Requirements
Confirm the master's or doctoral degree programme, DLI and public-DLI status, plus any PAL/TAL or Quebec requirements. Check programme suitability and current PGWP eligibility.
Step 2
Obtain the LOA & Confirm PAL/TAL / Quebec Requirements
Obtain the DLI letter of acceptance. From 1 January 2026, degree-granting master's and doctoral students at public DLIs are PAL/TAL-exempt; otherwise provide one where required. Quebec follows CAQ rules.
Step 3
Prepare the Academic, Research & Financial File
Prepare the one-page study plan, academic and research evidence, funding documents, bank history and sponsor evidence, plus police and medical documents where applicable.
Step 4
Apply Online & Pay the IRCC Fees
Apply online through the IRCC Secure Account, complete the required forms and pay CAD 150 plus the biometrics fee where applicable.
Step 5
Give Biometrics & Complete Required Medicals
If required, receive the BIL and book a free biometric appointment at a Canada VAC in Bangladesh. Eligible doctoral applicants should give biometrics within 2 weeks of the BIL for faster processing.
Step 6
LOA Verification & IRCC Assessment
The DLI verifies the LOA and IRCC assesses study purpose, funds and admissibility. Further evidence or an interview may be requested; eligible doctoral applications may receive 2-week processing after required steps are complete.
Step 7
Passport, Approval Letter & Entry to Canada
If approved and IRCC requests the passport, submit it through a Canada VAC. After return, check the visa details before travel.
